Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC is searching for qualified candidates to assume the role of Rewinder Operator.
Summary/Objective: The Rewinder Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the rewinder in the Paper Machine department. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to working safe, good communication skills, a demonstrated ability to learn and work in a fast-paced environment, and experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
Key responsibilities of Rewinder Operator include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for assisting in the production of the highest quality rolls that come off the winder.
- Responsible for inspection of each roll and classifying roll(s) into appropriate quality status.
- Safe operation of the machine that winds paper from one roll to another to form compact rolls of specified footage or diameter prior to cutting.
- Threads end of parent roll into feeding mechanism of machine and adjusts friction brake by hand to maintain tension of paper.
- Slides rewind cores on shafts and starts machine.
- Verifies perforations, size, and alignment of rewind rolls.
- Removes wound roll from shaft and places it on conveyor.
- Dumps paper buggy at the end of shift.
- Assists Wrapper/Winder Operators as needed.
- Assist Operator with lockboxes and Lock-out, Tag-out procedures.
- May cut defects from paper and splice cut ends together.
- Communicate with relief about order schedule for upcoming shift.
- Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner; keep work area clean.
- Must follow all required safety rules and regulations, observe best safety practices for themselves and team members.
- Performs other tasks as required.
General Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 1-year experience working in a Paper Machine operation at a Paper Mill is highly preferred.
- Ability to understand and perform all lower position job duties within the Paper Machine.
- Ability to lift and move, push or pull up to 50-80lbs; navigate stairs; climb ladders; stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the entire shift.
- Ability and willingness to work a swing shift schedule.
- General mechanical aptitude & troubleshooting skills.
- Possess attention to detail.
- Self-starter, with the ability to work independently and as a team member.
