Job Summary:
Activities Guides are professional outdoor guides committed to delivering safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for guests visiting The Mill at Ward Cove. Guides will rotate through multiple adventure tours throughout the season and will be cross-trained in:
- E-Bike Tour, Sea Kayak Tour, Zodiac Tour & Safety boat operations (as applicable), Sea Cycle Tour, Hiking Tour, Camp-hand duties
Each tour requires strong customer service, safety awareness, communication, and outdoor competency.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Guest Experience & Tour Delivery
- Conduct safe, informative, and high-quality tours that exceed guest expectations.
- Meet, greet, and outfit guests in appropriate gear and safety equipment.
- Deliver safety briefings, scripted or unscripted narration, and tour commentary.
- Share knowledge about local flora, fauna, history, weather patterns, and surroundings.
- Entertain guests and ensure an enjoyable experience for all skill levels.
- Answer guest questions and address concerns.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe environment for guests and staff.
- Follow all safety procedures, protocols, and emergency response processes.
- Maintain required certifications (First Aid/CPR; others as applicable).
- Participate in all safety training, drills, and clinics.
- Operate equipment, vessels, and vehicles safely and professionally.
Equipment, Gear & Site Maintenance
- Clean, organize, and maintain equipment, vehicles, bikes, kayaks, zodiacs, sea cycles, and workspaces.
- Complete inspection logs and report any damage or issues to supervisor.
- Set up and tear down gear and camp supplies daily.
- Assist with campfire, beverage, and snack setup.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with fellow guides, deckhands, camp-hands, and management.
- Maintain radio communication at all times while on tour.
- Convey guest counts, falls/injuries, and operational updates to managers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Safety Focus: Must be able to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for guests, employees, and the public;
- Customer-Service Focus: Must understand that customer service is a top priority and must conduct all actions with this in mind;
- Attention to Detail: Maintaining high company standards in the upkeep of gear and equipment, presentation of the tour product and customer focus;
- Problem-Solving Skills: Must be flexible and able to produce appropriate solutions quickly, working across the organization at times. Must be able to find creative solutions to unique problems and employ a logical and organized thought process;
- Presentation skills: Must be able to deliver a scripted/non-scripted, entertaining, informative, safety briefing and tour presentation on a 2–3-hour tour multiple times a day to guests with varying backgrounds and skillsets;
- Successful completion of on-the-job training required;
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Education and Experience:
- First aid & CPR certified; lifeguarding, water rescue, kayak instruction helpful.
- 1 to 2 years of previous guiding experience in an outdoor environment preferred, but not required.
- Driver’s License Preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to work outdoors for long days in diverse weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
