KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of the theory and processes of modern wastewater treatment, the machines, equipment, materials used in such treatment, and industry developments
- Thorough knowledge of the chemical and physical processes involved in sludge treatment
- Thorough knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic engineering principles involved in plant operation
- Ability to detect flaws in the operation of mechanical equipment and to determine proper remedial actions
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, stakeholders, regulatory agency officials, and the general public
- Ability to work any day or time including wet weather events, emergency callouts, holidays and weekends as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or environmental science with additional technical training in wastewater collection systems is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of Pennsylvania
- Possession of a Class A or B Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate issued by the State of Pennsylvania
- Strong computer skills including MS Office and SCADA systems
- Trickling filter experience preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and confined spaces. The employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment can vary from moderate to loud.
