SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant works under the direct supervision of the licensed medical professional (LMP) to provide support to the medical staff and coordinate care within the program.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Verify patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepare patients for examination by LMP by performing vital signs, medication reconciliation, EKGs, phlebotomy as indicated, and giving patients medical history forms. Assist patients filling out medical history forms if they are unable to complete by themselves.
- Schedule appointments by making arrangements with the program facility, verifying times with patients, preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
- Perform front office administrative duties including management of supply inventory, prompt and friendly answering of telephone calls, greeting patients and excellent customer service.
- Coordinate care in the form of requesting of records, communicating progress, acting as liaison between internal and external influences, gathering of information, and preparing reports.
- Assist medical staff in monitoring patient medical status, measuring patient vital signs, and performing other routine medical procedures as directed by LMP; maintain up to date documentation of observations and evaluations in patient electronic medical record.
- Administer injectable medication as delegated by LMP, monitor progress and side effects.
- Actively participate as part of the multi-disciplinary treatment team within scope of practice in support of patient’s treatment plan.
- Administer and review PPD (Tuberculosis testing).
- Collect urinalysis sample and perform rapid toxicology screening according to established policies.
- Perform patient care activities as delegated by the LMP, including patient care instructions, individual medication orders, and other established patient care orders.
- Recognize and initiate appropriate response to crisis or emergency situations.
- Work collaboratively with clinical and medical teams to ensure that safety and industry standards are maintained program wide.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
