Learning Center Teacher

SUMMARY:

The Learning Center Teacher’s main role will be to facilitate classes geared towards giving additional support to students who are still developing into independent learners. They will provide small group support to students in assigned classes and at the direction of the Learning Specialists. Collaborate with the Math Specialist to plan time in class for additional math support. Coordinate with ASL Virtual Academy instructors and students to ensure students make progress in ASL. 

As with any teacher at Mayfield Junior School, there is an expectation that this person will be open to peer feedback, creative discussion, and child-centered in their approach. All faculty and staff at Mayfield Junior School should familiarize themselves with the mission and vision statement and be prepared to actively teach with Holy Child goals in mind.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional

  • Facilitate small groups of students in ASLX classes with scaffolded structures intended to increase organization skills, self-advocacy skills, and confidence.
  • Organize and manage an after school 3:15-4:00 pm Homework Club twice weekly.
  • Attend 7:30-8:00 am student support sessions two days per week
  • Implement the supports and plans for individual students with direction from the Learning Specialists and Dean of Academic Life. The students have been previously identified as part of ASLX.
  • Proctor exams and other assessments for students with designated accommodations, proctor student makeup tests as needed by the Learning Specialist or teachers.
  • Foster executive functioning skills development by helping students prioritize assignments, create to-do lists,  and parse out work into manageable chunks, based on presenting needs.
  • Monitor Schoology’s Advisory Dashboard for each student, keeping track of missing assignments and help students communicate with their teachers about turning in late work.
  • Communicate with the Learning Specialist daily to set individual plans for students and update one another on progress.
  • Coordinate math support with the Learning Specialist and Math Specialist where appropriate and based on need.
  • Support supervision duties and substitution needs as assigned.
  • Work with the Learning Specialist and the Math Specialist to determine the Learning Center Teacher’s day-to-day tasks.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Multiple subject or specialized teaching credential preferred
  • Experience working with neurodiverse students
  • Deep understanding of learning differences, their impact, and intervention strategies
  • At least two years of experience teaching 5-8 preferred
  • Experience integrating technology into the curriculum 
  • Valid teaching credential – Elementary School preferred
  • Experience in faith-based or independent schools preferred

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

While performing the duties of this job the employee works in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate and constant distractions due to constant foot traffic, phones ringing, and people talking.
