Lakeview Village is a continuing care retirement community. We have an opening for a Cook to work Full Time.

Lakeview's Cook prepares and cooks various meal items according to Lakeview Village recipes. Responsible for following instructions and carrying out assignments properly. Contributes to Lakeview Village Residents’ quality of life by providing superior communal meals, optimal choices, and caring services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Prepares ingredients for the current or upcoming menus, including, but not limited to: washing and cutting produce, seasoning meat, and portioning ingredients.
  • Uses common kitchen appliances and utensils to prepare meals, including but not limited to: ovens, grills, and fryers.
  • Cooks and prepares food items according to Local, State, and Federal Regulations; follows Lakeview Village recipes.
  • Monitors the progress of multiple food items throughout the preparation, cooking, and serving process.
  • Assists other cooks or other team members as needed.
  • Receives and fulfills orders from Dining Room Servers, ensuring that each order is fulfilled accurately, timely, and appropriately plated/presented.
  • Ensures the proper set-up and teardown of workstations.
  • Ensures the sanitization and cleanliness of kitchen workstations, appliances, and utensils.
  • Dates, labels, and stores food properly. Restocks food supplies as needed.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Participates in the development of seasonal menus by recommending items and providing appropriate feedback.
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as required.
  • Develops and maintains a good working rapport with inter-department personnel and other departments within the facility, to ensure that Dining Service programs can be properly maintained to meet the needs of facility and residents.
  • Ensures that Resident’s Rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights, including the right to express grievances are followed.

Qualifications

  • GED or High School Graduation is preferred.
  • At least three years of cooking experience are required, other food service experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks appropriately, and exercise sound judgement where procedures cannot be standardized.
  • Must be able to read written documents, including but not limited to: Hazardous Materials labels, job checklists, and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to work irregular hours.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed, straight-forward written and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform tasting and or/smelling of food items.
  • Possesses an empathetic approach to the elderly.
  • Able to work in a team setting with residents, relatives, staff, and others.
