Position Description:

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position. We are seeking energetic and self-aware candidates who share our commitment to preparing highly qualified and socially conscious counseling professionals. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is a fully online program, so experience working with online graduate students is preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
 

  1. Teaches graduate classes in the counseling programs, with a focus on the Mental Health Counseling program.
     
  2. Supervises students in mental health counseling practicum and internship field placements.
     
  3. Provides services to the community and the counseling profession by participating in local, state, national associations' events, conferences, and committee/board work.
     
  4. Fulfills services responsibilities to the department, college, and university.
     
  5. Provides advisement and mentoring to students in the counseling programs.
     
  6. Utilizes technology in teaching and supervision.
     
  7. Participates in preparation for accreditation (e.g., CACREP) reviews and university-level program reviews.
     
  8. Works in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Counseling and in the College of Psychology and community partners.
     
  9. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have one of the following:

  • Earned doctoral degree in counselor education, clinical mental health counseling, or rehabilitation counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program.
  • Earned a doctoral degree in a closely related field, if not CACREP accredited, and have had employment as a full-time faculty member in a CACREP accredited Counselor Education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
  • Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by start date.
  • Licensed as a professional counselor or license eligible in their state; or certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor, Nationally Certified Counselor and/or eligibility to become certified.

In addition, candidates should have: 

  • Demonstrated commitment to accessibility and excellence in teaching, and service
  • Evidence of experience with instructional technology (instructional software, learning management systems such as Canvas) and ability to teach in non-traditional formats and settings (off-campus, evenings, online)
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and teaching students in graduate counseling programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

  • The preferred candidate will be experienced in the implementation of CACREP accreditation standards in rehabilitation counseling.
  • Active engagement in professional counseling organizations
