Job Summary

A CT Technologist is responsible for operating CT scanners to capture high-quality diagnostic images of patients' internal organs and tissues. This role involves a combination of technical expertise, patient care, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses and patient safety.

Essential Job Functions

• CT technologists are responsible for operating the equipment to capture diagnostic images of patients' internal organs and tissues. 
• They educate and prepare patients for the procedure, explaining the process and answering questions. 
• They position patients accurately to ensure optimal image quality and evaluate the images for technical quality. 
• They are responsible for ensuring patient safety and comfort, including administering contrast agents and following radiation safety protocols. 
• They may also be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and calibrating the CT scanning equipment. 
• They collect patient medical histories and maintain accurate records of the procedures performed. 
• They collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to interpret images and ensure accurate diagnoses. 
• Sterilizing radiologic equipment 
• Interpreting doctors' written scanning instructions 
• Performing regular warm-up sequences on the CT scanner 
• Taking inventory of radiologic supplies 
• Reconciliation of studies from PACS system to eCW and proper assignation/faxing of external orders to ordering physicians.
• Obtaining/confirming CT authorizations

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education

• Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) 

Required Experience

• Thorough knowledge of radiologic and CT technology practices, basic sciences related to mechanical and electrical systems. Minimum one year of experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications

• ARRT license.
• BLS certification.
• CT certification preferred.

• Ability to carry out oral and written instructions, and understand technical information from supervisors, charts, reference books, manuals and labels.
• Uses special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.
• Uses personal judgement and specialized knowledge to give information to people.
• Communicates well. Speaks clearly and listens carefully.
• Adheres to policy and procedures as set forth by the hospital.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Assists patients and their families in their needs. Work fast in an emergency.
• May be cross trained in other areas where applicable.
• May be required to vary shifts and/or weekend rotation as the needs of the department dictate.
• May include overtime, only if approved by the Director.
• Ability to multitask.
• Record information accurately.
