Description

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy in Corpus Christi, Texas, is seeking to hire a full-time Teacher Aide for the 2025-2026 school year. The Teacher Aide assists assigned Teachers in the preparation and management of classroom activities.  The Teacher’s Aide works under the supervision of the assigned Teachers and reports to the campus Principal.  The Teacher’s Aide may also perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal.

 

Ministerial Character:
The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people. He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher and work with individual students or small groups
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
  • Assist the children at lunchtime to help ensure students are eating, safe, and that they clean up after themselves
  • Help the teacher maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Provide assistance to substitute teachers in the absence of the classroom teacher
  • Participate in faculty meetings as needed as well as special events as assigned
  • Help supervise the children throughout the day including in the classroom and recess
  • Help the classroom teacher at the end of the day to release students to their parents
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Maintain confidentiality

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Experience working with children in a school, preschool or childcare setting
  • The ability to understand and speak Spanish is preferred

 

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Submit to employment required screening including a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
  • Complete certification in Safe Environment Training by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
  • Position requires adherence to all diocesan policies and procedures
  • Enjoy working with young students within a Catholic school environment
  • Exhibit teamwork, patience and excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate good judgment
  • Be able to be calm and encouraging with children
  • An understanding of the teachings of the Catholic church and its catechism
  • Ability to make good, sound decisions and the ability to apply training tools in real situations
