Description

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Academy in Corpus Christi is seeking a part-time After Care Leader. This position is responsible for the supervision of students in school’s extended care program. This position will supervise all activities that take place as part of the program and ensure the safety of each child attending the school’s extended care program.

 

Ministerial Character:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and the Diocese of Corpus Christi including child care guidelines making the 
    safety and care of children primary focus
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service of the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization
  • As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate for students of various ages and with various abilities
  • Prepare and gather materials and supplies prior to programs
  • Assist and supervise children during all activities including meal/snack time and clean-up
  • Clean site when children depart ensuring that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately 
    maintained
  • Communicate appropriate information to parents
  • Assist in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents assigned by site coordinator
  • Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant and foster positive connections between participants
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with children, parents, school staff, community members and partners
  • Effectively manage assigned group maintaining and enforcing progressive discipline policy
  • Report observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) to site coordinator or school principal
  • Complete all other relevant programmatic duties assigned by supervisor

 

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
  • Maintain confidentiality

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High Diploma
  • Demonstrated relevant equivalent experience in working with school-age children or youth development
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Texas driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance

 

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
•  Understand and apply basic child and adolescent development principles
•  Communicate and develop positive relationships with youth
•  Adapt, facilitate, and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the group
•  Involve and empower youth
•  Identify potential risk factors (in a program environment) and take measures to reduce risk
•  Care for, involve, and work with families and community
•  Work as part of a team and shows professionalism
•  Demonstrate the attributes and qualities of a positive role model
•  Interact with and relate to youth in ways that support asset building
•  Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team
•  Must have good written and verbal skills
•  Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
 

Additional Requirements:

  • Part-time, non-exempt position; scheduled hours not to exceed 29 per week
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
