Basic Functions :

Primary: Responds to calls, both emergency and non-emergency, to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility or other appropriate location.

Secondary: To support the Paramedic in general, as needed.

Reporting :

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) reports directly to the Paramedic while engaged in the care and/or transport of a patient.

The following positions report directly to the EMT :

  • At this time no personnel report directly to the EMT.

Authorities :
Sacred Cross EMS, Inc. (SC) grants the EMT the authority to exercise the responsibilities, and perform the duties, of your position. This includes full decision-making authority for all responsibilities and duties you manage, within the guidelines established by the Paramedic and other applicable company policies and procedures. This authority also includes delegating your duties to staff who report directly to you, as you may occasionally need, to meet urgent deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities :

The EMT is responsible for the successful performance of the following items. The Paramedic will, at times prescribed by company policy, conduct an evaluation of the EMT’s job performance based on these items. The Paramedic will rate the EMT’s performance on a scale of 1 through 5 with 5 being the highest possible score.

  • Reporting to work on time according to the assigned schedule prepared to begin his/her duties.
  • Ensuring that his/her time in and time out is consistently and accurately recorded for payroll purposes.
  • Complying with all published company policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining his/her work space in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Supporting the Paramedic in the safe and efficient care and transport of patients in accordance with protocols.
  • Maintaining all assigned vehicles, equipment, supplies and facilities in a safe, clean, orderly manner.
  • Addressing and resolving problems concerning his/her areas of responsibility referring only those issues to the Paramedic which require his/her involvement.
  • Ensuring that work performed consistently meets or exceeds SC and customer expectations.
  • Collecting and submitting all required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintaining consistent effective communications with his/her immediate supervisor or other management personnel as necessary to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensuring the prompt and efficient response and resolution to customer service issues within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintaining positive, productive relationships with other departments and personnel within the company.
  • Operating in an ethical manner and in compliance with all established company standards.
  • Continually searching for ways and means to improve the processes and work flow within his/her assigned area of responsibility.
  • Coordinating with and training, to the degree required, the person designated by the Paramedic to assume his/her duties in the event of his/her absence.
  • Performing various other jobs and assignments as directed.

Qualifications

Requirements :

Education : A High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience : A minimum of one year of verifiable, directly related experience with an organization similar in business activities to SC is preferred. The ability to work various shift schedules and a high level of computer proficiency is required.

Licenses and Certificates : This position requires a current, valid Operator’s License issued by his/her state of residence and a driving record acceptable to the company’s insurance carrier. Certification as an EMT within the State of Texas is a requirement. Dallas certificate within 30 days of hire.

Physical Requirements :

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job :

Body Positions : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. He/she may also be required to sit for prolonged periods of time while completing other duties and responsibilities.

Body Movements : The employee must have a full range of body movements, including the use of his/her hands to finger, handle, feel and manipulate various equipment. The employee must be able to bend, stoop and crouch.

Body Senses : The employee must have command of the senses of sight, hearing, touch and smell. Specific vision requirements include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Strength : The employee must have the ability to frequently lift and carry up to one hundred fifty pounds.

Working Conditions : This employee’s primary work space will be in an ambulance responding to various call outs, largely of a non-emergency nature. As such he/she will be exposed to a full range of driving and weather conditions including seasonal hot and cold temperatures. He/she will also be frequently working in an indoor parking and maintenance environment and, on occasion, outdoor events. When not working in the previously mentioned environments this employee will be in a climate controlled office environment.

Noise Level : The noise levels for this position will range from low to moderate to high depending upon the job site conditions as described above.

Performance Requirements :

The EMT must meet or exceed all assigned duties and responsibilities at least 95% of the time, without sacrificing quality or safety.
