PURPOSE:
Contribute to the overall success of Matrix Design by contributing to the successful completion of 
automation systems that solve the complex problems of our customers.

OVERVIEW:
The Senior Automation Engineer contributes to the successful design, engineering, build-out, run-off, and 
commissioning of projects by collaboratively contributing to the success of the Sales and Project teams
from start to finish for each project assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be a Great Team Player

  • Collaborate with Project Teams by contributing to all phases of project design, 
  • development, build, programming, and installation
  • Seek innovative ways to improve the Matrix Way

Provide Support to Sales and Sales Engineering

  • Collaborate on the development and concept validation of proposed solutions
  • Balance adding functionality and limiting scope creep
  • Approve reach studies and simulations for robotic systems
  • Collaborate on risk assessment to ensure the system is designed within (A3) and ANSI safety 
  • specifications
  • Responsible for validating automation engineering requirements

Collaborate with the Automation Engineering Team

  • Collaborate with the Automation Engineering Manager as needed for all projects
  • Provide technical assistance and training to fellow members of the Automation Team 
  • Create game plans that define clear objectives and directions for the teams
  • Coordinate the successful hand-offs of projects to the Automation Engineering team before build start, providing 
  • additional context not contained in project documentation
  • Develop software for robotic and vision systems 
  • Accurate and timely submission of hours

Provide Excellent Customer Service

  • In-House
    • Responsible for R&D project execution and documentation
    • Provide an end-stage quality review to assess and improve FAT readiness to meet 
    • completion date 
  • In-the-Field
    •  Work closely with customers and vendors to resolve issues
    • Provide technical support and resources to customers 
    • Willing and able to travel up to 25%

Qualifications

  • 7+ Years Experience as Manufacturing Automation Engineer 
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • 9+ Years Experience with robotics, PLCs, low-voltage controls, three-phase power distribution, 
  • vision systems, electronic sensors, and pneumatics
  • Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standards
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks and MS Office suite
  • Strong Communication skills (written and verbal)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Contribute 45 hours per week on average
  • Able to work in an office and manufacturing floor environment
  • Regularly required to sit, reach, grasp, stand, and move from one area to another 
  • Regularly required to work in constricted parts of machine cells 
  • Constant and repeated use of the keyboard and mouse
  • Occasionally required to push, pull, bend, lift, and move up to 50lbs
