Position Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of Bliffert Lumber & Hardware’s financial operations. This position supports strategic decision-making by delivering insightful financial analysis and overseeing core accounting functions, including financial reporting, payroll, treasury, risk management, and employee benefits. The role also champions process improvements and compliance initiatives across the organization.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Manage the month-end close process, including completing journal entries and general ledger reconciliations within the targeted close window.
  • Maintain the general ledger to ensure complete and accurate financial statements.
  • Calculate commission expenses for members of the sales team.
  • Lead the annual financial audit and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Maintain the company’s financial reporting systems and tools. Develop new reports using FP&A software and modify existing reports to meet evolving business needs.

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Process payroll accurately and timely.
  • Manage financial and compliance reporting related to employee benefits, including ESOP, 401(k), Profit Sharing, and Safe Harbor plans.
  • Serve as a key liaison for benefits reporting and compliance requirements.

Treasury & Risk Management

  • Perform bank reconciliations and manage related treasury activities.
  • Compile and maintain data to support company insurance programs, including workers’ compensation, auto, and health insurance.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency.
  • Support ad hoc financial projects as assigned and collaborate cross-functionally to strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • CPA certification and Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel.
