The Maintenance Specialist position will support the general operations of the plant by servicing and maintaining the plant facilities, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards governing the Company to ensure that the plant is functioning properly, and production is maintained at all times. Multi-Craft Mechanic works in direct contact with other mechanics and personnel throughout the plant and reports directly to Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Receive work assignments and/or written work orders from supervisor and prioritize assignments; plan assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely and orderly manner; diagnose the source of equipment problems and determine the extent of repairs required; evaluate required repairs and determine proper method of performing repairs; determine and obtain from warehouse the proper parts and equipment required to complete repairs; mend, replace, repair, service and test equipment to ensure proper working order; take measurements; check clearances; ensure that defective or problem areas are cleared and secured properly and that electrical power is disconnected prior to any maintenance work being performed; spray and distribute gravel on roads, ditches and other areas; replace, change, pack, rebuild and overhaul worn or broken parts, including but not limited to flange gaskets, compressors, pumps, turbines, valves, lines, catalysts, hoses, steam tracers and traps, filters, gear boxes, bearings, lubricators, conveyor belts, seals, packing cases and other equipment throughout the plant; perform plate welding, pump and motor alignment, plumbing, insulation, carpentry and concrete foundation work and repairs; perform pipe fabrication, cutting, threading, fitting and installation; locate and repair steam leaks; determine the extent of equipment manufacturer and/or mechanical assistance required for proper repairs and coordinate repairs with supervisor and/or other mechanics; assist other mechanics with rebuilding major components; maintain written records and logs of repairs; identify problems and discrepancies, immediately report to supervisor and implement corrective actions to ensure proper operation of equipment; and, make determinations and use independent judgment concerning repairs of equipment.
Preventative Maintenance Functions
Perform inspections of equipment and determine the extent of preventative maintenance required; verify that equipment is functioning properly and is operating in a safe manner; plan assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely and orderly manner; service equipment and perform general preventative maintenance to comply with regulations, codes and standards; install, set up; determine the extent of equipment manufacturer and/or mechanical assistance required for proper equipment maintenance and coordinate equipment servicing with foreman and/or other mechanics; maintain written records and logs of preventative maintenance; identify problems and discrepancies, immediately report to supervisor and implement corrective actions to ensure proper operation of equipment; and, make determinations and use independent judgment concerning condition of equipment. others: ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions; and, ability to remain calm under stress.
