General Description and Qualifications:
King’s Way Christian Schools is a private, Christ-centered school serving students from 12 months through 12th grade in Vancouver, Washington. King’s Way partners with families to provide a Christ-centered education for the whole child, leading to life change in each student.

We are currently seeking a Lead Custodian to join our Facilities Department. The Lead Custodian plays a vital role in ensuring that our school buildings and campus remain clean, safe, and ready for daily learning and events. This position supports day-to-day custodial operations, maintains supplies, and coordinates access and setup needs for events and school activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong reliability, attention to detail, and a heart to serve in support of our school’s mission.

Job Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Lead Custodian will:

  • Support Access for School and Events
    • Unlock and secure buildings and rooms according to daily schedules.
    • Set up rooms for chapel, meetings, and school events as needed.
    • Coordinate access and respond to facility requests from staff or event coordinators.
  • Conduct Assigned Cleaning Tasks During Shift
    • Perform daily, scheduled custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, and emptying trash.
    • Clean and restock restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
    • Maintain high cleanliness standards in all assigned areas.
  • Attend to Urgent Cleaning or Hazardous Conditions
    • Respond to spills, biohazards, and safety concerns promptly.
    • Monitor and report facility-related safety hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Maintain Supply Inventory
    • Monitor custodial supply levels and reorder when needed.
    • Receive and store deliveries in proper locations.
    • Dispense supplies to custodial staff and classrooms as requested.
  • Oversee Contracted Services
    • Provide feedback to Facilities Director on the performance of contracted custodial vendors.
    • Assist in communicating schedules, building access, and special projects with vendors.
    • Help coordinate overlap between internal custodial needs and external contractor responsibilities.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, year-round position with 11 paid holidays. Standard hours are 6:00am - 3:00pm with some flexibility on non-school days, and minimal evening or weekend support for events or emergencies. Compensation ranges from $16.66 – $21.90 depending on skills, experience and tenure.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the King’s Way Statement of Faith.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of custodial or facilities experience, preferably in a school or public building.
  • Ability to walk, stand, lift (up to 50 lbs), bend, and climb stairs/ladders for extended periods.
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively with school staff, students, and vendors.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to complete digital work orders or supply tracking

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, MSDS requirements, and best practices for commercial cleaning.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
