Position Summary
The formulator supports and assists in the day-to-day projects of research and innovation of Cosmetic and Personal Care Products.  The formulator develops an in-depth knowledge of formulation theory and execution though the execution of stability protocols and compatibility testing.  The formulator supports the laboratory operations by keeping supplies stocked, calibrating equipment, organizing, and keeping glassware clean.  The position works closely with veteran formulators to learn and develop. 


Responsibilities and Essential Duties

  • Works in a safe manner in the laboratory.
  • Assists formulators and stability chemists on day-to-day projects.
  • Assists with replenishing bulk samples for lab portfolio and Showroom display.
  • Conducts stability testing and compatibility testing of products under development.
  • Inventories, pre-weighs, and stocks raw materials. 
  • Calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment daily.
  • Supports the regulatory requirements, ensuring appropriate documentation is properly acquired and maintained for raw materials, SDSs and compositions.
  • Maintains the laboratory by keeping glassware clean, organizing raw material inventory, and filing vendor information.
  • Completes and documents required training based on job position as illustrated by LMS and training matrix.

Qualifications

Technical Skills Required

  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry, some cosmetic formulation knowledge helpful.
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work as a team player.

Experience Required

  • Associates degree or in the process of obtaining a BA or BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or equivalent.  4 years’ experience in cosmetic or personal care manufactures may be considered equivalent. 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to climb stairs, stand for periods of time and have the ability to bend, squat, kneel, turn, and stoop.
  • Requires some walking, as well a sitting for periods of time.
  • Physically able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles, electrical, chemicals and moving parts.
  • Occasional use of computer screen.
  • Must be able to discern differences in colors and shades
