The Teacher of Children with Visual Impairments (TCVI) will provide specialized support to infants and toddlers (birth to 3 years old) with visual impairments, collaborating closely with families and a multidisciplinary team. Through parent coaching, the TCVI empowers families with knowledge, tools and confidence to support their child’s development within daily routines. We are looking for an individual dedicated to providing inclusive, culturally responsive services that respect the diverse backgrounds of families and ensure equitable access to Early Support within King County.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Participate in Early Support teams across King County to conduct functional vision assessments, evaluating each child’s strengths and areas of support. Engage families in the assessment and planning process, ensuring each family’s cultural values are honored.

• Develop and implement Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) with outcomes and strategies that are tailored to the child’s unique needs and family priorities.
• Provide vision services in home-based or community-based settings, utilizing evidence-based practices to facilitate learning and adapting activities to the cultural and developmental context of each family. Integrate parent coaching into all services, helping families learn techniques to support their child’s development within everyday routines.
• Work in partnership with other Early Support providers including the Family Resources Coordinator to ensure cohesive services across all areas of development.
• Provide training and guidance to Early Support teams regarding best practices in screening and identifying infants and toddlers with potential visual impairment
• Collaborate with existing local, regional, and state resources (e.g., Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT), school districts, Washington State School for the Blind, Department of Services for the Blind, Washington Sensory Disabilities Services) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services.
• Participate in meetings, workshops, and conferences for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job duties.
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, therapy sessions, family interactions and IFSP updates in accordance with Part C regulations.  
• Collect and maintain data for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating program activities and outcomes. Prepare a variety of written materials as required by King County and Kindering for the purpose of contract or grant compliance.
• Provide or support outreach, intensive informing, care planning, coordination, anticipatory guidance for complex health needs, assistance to access services, consultation, resource development, interagency coordination, training, program planning, quality management, and administration to support Medicaid programs

Required Education & Experience

· Master’s (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree with endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, with additional experience and training in birth-to-three development and family-centered coaching.

· Washington State teaching certificate.

· Demonstrated experience working with families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and a commitment to promote equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.

· Demonstrated skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word and Excel.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusting relationships with diverse families.

Minimum Prerequisites

· Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check.

· Have or be able to acquire current CPR and first aid certification within 6 months of hire.

· Possess valid Washington State driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.

· Have access to a dependable personal vehicle.

· Be able to lift 40 pounds (average three-year-old).

· Pass tuberculosis test.
