Intro/Program Description: Intro/ Program Description. Phelps House/Goddard Riverside offers 167 units of independent housing to low-income older adults over the age of 62 and people with mobility disabilities. The Social Services team provides case management, referrals, activities, and services coordination. Our goal is to help our population to have access to the best resources and as a result remain independent for as long as possible. The candidate must be able to handle confidential information and develop relationships with clients and community partners.

Purpose of Position: The purpose of the Social Worker Assistant position will be to join a qualified and experienced team of graduate level social workers to provide social services that enhance the clients’ overall quality of life and increase their access to a variety of resources. Our focus is on financial stability, health and wellness, food, and housing security. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration with the team and together deliver impactful results.

Schedule: 3 days a week - 21 hours


Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption. 

Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
  • Assist and advocate for older adults by providing support with a wide range of issues, including benefits, utilities, home care and assorted resources
  • Document the assistance provided to clients and maintain a daily log of such services
  • Assist the team with program related social, educational, and cultural activities provided in group settings
  • Provide ongoing reassurance calls to homebound clients or isolated clients
  • Perform outreach activities such as outreach calls, surveys, and communication of relevant information regarding building activities and community events


Phelps House Team Member

  • Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, mandatory trainings, and case conferences
  • Participate in program assessment and improvement plans


Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or related field
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel)
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Prior Experience working with older adults preferred
