Vice President Finance

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  With input from the Board of Directors and CEO, responsible for the overall direction and control of financial transactions and assets of Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska, Inc., Goodwill Industries Foundation of Greater Nebraska, Central Nebraska Goodwill Housing I and Central Nebraska Goodwill Housing II.

  1. With input from the Board of Directors and CEO, responsible for financial decision-making activities and ensuring short and long-term financial sustainability is maintained.
  2. Establish practices and procedures for the Accounting Department to ensure proper accounting internal control safeguards which meet current and future generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state regulatory requirements.
  3. Oversight of the Accounting and Finance Departments.  This includes mentoring and developing these departments’ respective teams, providing leadership in their work assignments and flow, directing the overall management of the individual team members, ensuring personnel have access to appropriate training to stay current in their professions, etc.
  4. Assure compliance with all contracts with federal, state, local and private revenue sources, including the coordination of all financial reporting requirements for previously mentioned entities.
  5. Report financial results to the Board of Directors.
  6. Provide analysis of financial data of the organization and recommendations so that operational and strategic planning may take place.
  7. Confer with department directors on profit & loss vs. budget results at least quarterly, recommend action if necessary.  Consult with departmental directors and staff on significant financial issues affecting their departments and the agency as a whole.
  8. Responsible for coordinating the development of the operating budget, foundation budget, and housing budgets.
  9. Ensure timely preparation of agency financial reports, e.g. monthly profit and loss reports and other ancillary reports as necessary.
  10. Staff representative on the Board Finance Committee.
  11. Direct and control agency assets to ensure short-term and long-term cash needs are met and investing excess funds for maximum interest return based on agency policy guidelines.
  12. Develop, implement and maintain agency accounting system.
  13. Review all proposed projects or contracts for their impact on agency’s finances.
  14. Perform internal audits to ensure accounting procedures and controls are working.
  15. Confer with the Chief Executive Officer as necessary on items impacting agency’s finances.
  16. Coordinate annual audit of agency by 3rd party accounting firm.
  17. Represent the organization as a liaison between funders and Goodwill operations.
  18. Participate in crossover training.
  19. Reliable and responsible in meeting all necessary deadlines and job responsibilities.
  20. Able to function effectively as a leader in concert with valuing teamwork in order to support the success of the organization.
  21. Maintain in-depth, effective relationships with members of the management team.
  22. Perform additional duties as required.
  23. Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

1.     Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business administration, strong skills in accounting principles and procedures.

2.     Minimum of five years’ experience in business management with related supervisory experience.

3.     Strong verbal, written and organizational skills.

4.     A well-developed acumen for business.

5.     Must have a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Nebraska and meet insurance requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.     Ability to communicate in spoken conversation.

2.     Ability to be independently mobile.

4.     Have the physical stamina to work at least 8 hours per day and be able to travel to sites, conferences, etc., via automobile, airplane, etc.

5.     Visual acuity, depth perception and field of vision within normal range.
