Position Description:

The Senior Design Engineer is a key technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing architectural window system projects from conception through completion. This role requires expertise in structural and thermal engineering, strong collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a hands-on approach to both design and project execution. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of façade systems, window fabrication, and installation processes to ensure high-quality, innovative solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Design & Drafting: Develop and refine technical drawings and plans using AutoCAD and other design software.
  • Architectural & Structural Analysis: Interpret architectural plans and apply engineering principles to ensure structural integrity and thermal efficiency in window systems.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with sales, architects, consultants, and construction teams to align project objectives with technical feasibility.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain organized project documentation, including design revisions, progress reports, and adherence to industry codes and standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all designs and installations meet or exceed client expectations, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing design processes, efficiency, and product innovation.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • AutoCAD Expertise: Proficiency in AutoCAD with a strong ability to manipulate and create detailed technical drawings.
  • Architectural Knowledge: Strong understanding of architectural plans, blueprints, and construction documentation.
  • Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of Structural Engineering and Thermal Calculations to aid in window designs and installation applications.
  • Data Management: Advanced skills in Excel for data analysis, tracking project progress, and managing schedules.
  • Expertise in architectural window systems, curtain walls, metal panels, and façade design.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and building envelope performance requirements.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Team Collaboration: A proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Leadership ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to address challenges creatively and efficiently.
  • Adaptability: Demonstrates a willingness to take on new challenges and quickly learn new technologies or processes as needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail

Experience & Education:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in engineering design, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience in window design, fabrication, and installation is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with metal panel and slab cover systems is a plus.
  • Proficiency in 3D drawing software (e.g., Revit, SketchUp, Inventor) is a plus.
  • Experience working with architectural façades and storefronts is beneficial.
  • Curtain Wall experience is required
