The Riverside Magnet School at Goodwin University (http://www.riversidemagnetschool.org) is a public magnet school in East Hartford, CT serving children Pre-K through Grade 5. POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Education teacher is responsible for the delivery of high-quality Special Education services in accordance with students’ individual needs in the least restrictive environment.The Special Education teacher is responsible for providing Special Education services in accordance with local, state, and federal mandates and guidelines. The teacher is responsible to the Director of Special Programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as the I.E.P. Case Manager to draft, monitor and ensure the appropriate implementation of the student’s individual plan.
- Present skill in designing and presenting instruction aligned to student’s I.E.P. and CT State Dept. of Education standards.
- Regard and implement the GUMS Special Education Department procedures and practices.
- Present engaging and motivating instruction for students using formative assessments to gauge progress.
- Ensure learning for each student by implementing instruction that is engaging, motivating and informed by scientifically research-based interventions.
- Provide leadership to the multidisciplinary student team to create and present coordination of student clinical and instructional services.
- Establish and oversee student inclusion plans including alignment with I.E.P. goals and objectives, general education curricula, school-wide or program expectations and appropriate data structures for progress monitoring.
- Design and implement and assess classroom systems and school supports for positive social and behavior learning opportunities based upon I.E.P. needs, F.B.A/B.I.P. student motivation and data-based measures.
- Train, supervise and monitor instructional staff services and competencies.
- Ability to lift/restrain students 50 lbs. or higher as needed.
- Perform other duties associated with the teaching position.
