Since 1949, Columbia Gear Corporation has been specializing in the design & manufacturer of custom spur and helical gears, gear box assemblies and related products.
Due to continued rapid growth & customer demand, we are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer.
This position will work in both the office & shop environments developing, optimizing, and supporting CNC machining processes to ensure efficient production of high-quality parts. This role will work closely with production, quality, and design teams to drive process improvements, reduce waste, and support new product introductions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Create and maintain process documentation including work instructions, tooling requirements, and setup sheets.
- Work with CNC programmers and machinists to improve cycle times, reduce setup times, and enhance overall process efficiency.
- Assist in fixture and tooling design for new jobs and continuous improvement projects.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to machining issues or quality concerns.
- Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across the shop floor.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure products meet specifications and tolerances.
- Participate in the selection and implementation of new equipment or technology.
- Provide technical support and training to machinists and operators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in a CNC machining environment; job shop experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, G-code, tooling, and fixture design.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Pro-E Drawings).
