Position Title: Clinical Therapist

Supervisor: Clinical Director

FLSA Classification: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Therapist is responsible for performing a wide variety of client care activities as directed by the attending physician, Medical Director and Clinical Director.  He/she will be responsible for providing group, individual, and family therapy. Facilitation of caseload therapy groups daily. Collaborates with the Treatment Team to formulate the Master Treatment Plan and assists in coordinating discharge planning.  Has primary responsibility for maintaining communication with the referral source and other services provided as needed. 

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review assessments from referring facilities & intake bio-psychosocial assessment and note problems/issues that require further attention
  • Contact referral source and other key individuals to gather additional information as necessary 
  • Gather comprehensive diagnostic information through psychosocial assessment interview
  • Develop an Integrated Summary, bringing together information from all assessments to identify problem areas that may affect treatment and/or need to be addressed in treatment planning
  • Develop a comprehensive problem list that reflects client’s individual issues as described in the assessments and Integrated Summary 
  • Present psychosocial and diagnostic information to treatment team in a clear, concise manner
  • Formulate a comprehensive treatment plan with clients that effectively addresses client issues and is completed within established time frames
  • Develop clearly stated treatment goals and objectives that are measurable
  • Develop interventions that will accomplish goals and objectives and state the planned frequency of interventions
  • Participating effectively in multidisciplinary treatment plan reviews and/or case staffing, demonstrating adequate preparation and understanding of client issues, progress, areas of resistance, positive and negative strategies, etc.
  • Document the client’s progress accurately as it relates to treatment goals and objectives via individual progress notes, weekly summary notes, and family contact notes on weekly basis.
  • Continue treatment planning process throughout client’s stay in treatment, opening new problems and developing or revising treatment plans as necessary
  • Assist clients in gaining group process skills
  • Track client’s clinical problems in group and document in weekly summary note
  • Utilize experiential techniques effectively
  • Create atmosphere in which self-disclosure is facilitated
  • Conduct psycho-educational groups (lectures/videos/discussions) effectively
  • Adhere to time schedules/deadlines related to documentation and services.
  • Provide individual counseling to clients at least one (1) time per week
  • Make one family contact per week and document via family contact note
  • Assist clients in gaining insight into problems and understanding their treatment goals and progress toward goals
  • Enforce program rules and regulations in a firm but fair manner
  • Confront counter-productive behavior appropriately
  • Establish effective working clinical rapport with clients and elicit respect
  • Adapt to different types of clients
  • Identify client strengths and weaknesses

  • Understand and apply the program’s clinical philosophy
  • Maintain regular contact and open communication with families

  • Assist clients in managing outside stressors (legal, financial, vocational, etc.) according to the best interests of the client’s progress in recovery
  • Demonstrate good strategic and problem-solving skills
  • Maintain clinical records according to program policies and those of licensing and accrediting agencies
  • Ensure that documentation is timely, consistent, clear and articulate
  • Keep clinical records secure at all times.
  • Use good clinical judgment in moving client through treatment levels
  • Prepare client to maintain recovery post-discharge
  • Develop a discharge plan that meets client needs for ongoing support
  • Accept and utilize supervision
  • Address problems noted by supervisor
  • Communicate with supervisor and keep supervisor informed of significant case developments
  • Demonstrate willingness to accept responsibility
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities and contribute to the welfare of the organization
  • Pursuing professional development through participation in education and training programs

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

  • Therapeutic skills: This individual is responsible for providing individual therapy to clients and families. Must be able to demonstrate good clinical judgment and vast knowledge of clinical intervention types.
  • Group Work skills: This individual must demonstrate group presentation skills and facilitate meaningful, creative and practical group therapy sessions.
  • Documentation skills: This individual is responsible for completing clinical documentation. Must be able to translate clinical judgment into concise clinical notes, weekly summaries and discharge summaries. 
  • Time Management: This individual is responsible for maintaining a weekly schedule of client sessions. Must be able to organize and manage time appropriately to include documentation, individual sessions and group therapy.
  • Analytical: This individual synthesizes complex or diverse information. Must be able to pay close attention to detail and analyze client cases.
  • Judgment: This individual displays a willingness to make decisions, exercise discretion, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisions.
  • Problem Solving: This individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • This individual works collaboratively within a therapeutic team environment and is able to seek out clinical support from others. 
  • Oral communication: Maintains open communication lines with facility staff, attending clinicians and physicians, clients and families.  Liaisons with community agencies, vendors, and payers of health services.
  • Planning/organizing: This individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  • Knowledge of regulations: Must have working knowledge of the following- State & Federal Statutes Regarding Client Confidentiality laws.
  • Knowledge of Drug-Free Workplace Policies.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Violence.
  • Knowledge of Corporate Integrity & Compliance Program.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Driver’s license
  • CPR certification required
  • Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline under 491 Board License or Certification
  • 2 years of work experience in the mental health field
  • Ability to pass Nationwide & Local/State background clearance.
  • LCSW, LMHC, LMFT preferred.
  • Specialized certifications/training in clinical areas of expertise welcome.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position is required to work in a temperature-controlled environment; 80% - 90% of the time spent indoors. Occasional outdoor activities, including water activities, also required (adventure track). Potential exposure to violent situations. Potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials. Routine tasks no high exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues (although situations may arise in which the employee might encounter potential exposure to any of the above).
