Position: Automotive Salesperson

 

Summary:

An Automotive Salesperson assists customers to identify the proper vehicle for their current situation. Sells new and used vehicles while achieving and maintaining an appropriate level of gross profit and volume while delivering excellent customer service that helps build retention and operational growth.

Essential Duties:

  • Satisfies the transportation needs of new and used-vehicle purchasers.
  • Approaches, greets, and helps or directs any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.
  • Follows and memorizes IK Auto group 7 Steps to the Sales Process.
  • Assists customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses. Suggest alternative vehicles if necessary.
  • Understands the terminology of the automobile business and keeps abreast of changes in product technology, incoming inventory, features, accessories etc.
  • Provides thorough product information and demonstration to all prospects.
  • Offers Test Drives to all prospects. Follows dealership procedure to obtain proper identification from customer before test drive begins.
  • Exhibits a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Utilizes dealership sales control and follow-up system.
  • Knows and understands the federal, state, and local laws which govern retail auto sales.
  • Establishes personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity and devises a strategy to meet those goals.
  • Knows and understands equity and values and can explain depreciation to the customer.
  • Ensures that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer.
  • Turns 100 percent of closed deals to finance and insurance manager and presents properly completed paperwork (i.e., insurance information, trade

title etc.).

  • Ensures that sold vehicles are prepared for customer delivery (i.e., cleans vehicles, fills gas tank, and ensures all features are operational) prior to the customer’s arrival.
  • Delivers vehicles to customers, ensuring that the customer understands the vehicle's operating features, warranty, and paperwork.
  • Introduces customers to service department personnel to emphasize to them the quality and efficiency of service repairs and maintenance available in the dealership's service department.
  • Schedules customer’s first service appointment.
  • Follow up on all post-delivery items, tag/title work, “we-owes,” and special requests to be sure that all customer expectations are met.
  • Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains a prospect development and follow-up system with dealership

CRM system.

  • Attends sales meetings and will be required to perform the training from time to time.
  • Helps with the used-vehicle inspection process.
  • Helps to keep the used-vehicle department neat and clean.
  • Maintains a professional business appearance.
  • Ensures that all trade documents are completed 100% correctly: Buyer’s guide, as-is forms, not ready for sales ETC.
  • Reviews and analyzes actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
  • Works with all departments to ensure that the dealership builds retention for operational growth.
  • Keep up with all Manufacturer training along with safety compliance training, and IT security training on a timely basis.
  • Meet or exceed requirements from both the manufacturer and dealership.
  • Keeps a current driver's license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

MARGINAL DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Manufacturer Training

Valid Driver's License with a clean Driver’s Abstract.
