Description

About St. Mark’s
Founded in 1906, St. Mark's School of Texas is a non-sectarian, college-preparatory, independent day school for boys in grades one through twelve. The School’s charter states that it is “designed to afford its students well-rounded physical, intellectual, moral, and religious training and instruction.” The School is intended to be a diverse community of teachers and students who share a love of learning and who strive for high achievement in whatever they undertake.

St. Mark’s aims to prepare young men to assume leadership and responsibility in a competitive and changing world. To this end, the School professes and upholds certain values. These values include the discipline of postponing immediate gratification in the interests of earning eventual, hard-won satisfaction; the responsibility of defending one’s own ideas, of respecting the views of others, and of accepting the consequences for one’s own actions; and an appreciation for the lively connection between knowledge and responsibility and the obligation to serve.

Position Description
The School is seeking a creative, energetic, and passionate Middle and Upper School Latin teacher to begin in the 2026-27 school year. The successful applicant will be excited to work as part of a dedicated team of faculty members in our Latin program, whose rigorous courses span grades five through twelve. Likewise, said candidate will demonstrate a commitment to character and leadership education for all boys, giving equal priority to their character and intellectual development.

  • An understanding of the values of St. Mark’s and a desire to contribute to the community in ways that make the School the best version of itself
  • A master’s degree in Latin or Classics is preferred. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Latin or Classics will also be considered, as will candidates with degrees in related fields who have significant experience as Middle School and Upper School Latin teachers.
  • Three years or more years of experience teaching Latin
  • Fluency with a variety of technology tools to advance learning
  • Passion for the subject matter and for working with young people
  • The ability and the desire to collaborate with colleagues
