Position Summary

Hebrew Union College seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as its inaugural Assistant Vice President, Admissions and Enrollment Management. This senior role will shape the vision and execution of recruitment, admissions, and financial aid strategies across HUC’s multi-campus system, impacting the future of Jewish leadership, education, and community life.

Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the AVP will lead the institution in designing and implementing initiatives to support enrollment growth across all academic programs. The AVP may work from Hebrew Union College’s New York City or Los Angeles campus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 

Strategic Enrollment Leadership

• Develop and implement a comprehensive, data-informed strategy for recruitment and admissions.
• Expand outreach efforts to reach prospective students in both traditional and emerging markets.
• Monitor and analyze enrollment trends, market conditions, and the competitive landscape to inform decision-making and report regularly to leadership including President’s Cabinet and Board of Governors.
   

Team Leadership and Office Operations

• Lead the admissions and enrollment team in achieving institutional goals, setting clear performance standards, and fostering a culture of excellence.
• Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for staff.
• Oversee admissions and enrollment workflows and the developing and tracking of performance metrics to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensure institutional policies and practices maintain fair and equitable treatment of prospective students, and that all admissions processes comply with federal and state laws and regulations.
• Build and promote a customer-friendly and collaborative spirit throughout the department.
   

Financial Aid Coordination

• Work with the Director of Financial Aid (a dual report to AVP Finance) to align financial aid strategies with enrollment goals.
   

Cross-College Collaboration

• Partner with School Directors, Program Directors, and the Provost’s Office to design and support robust and innovative recruitment strategies.
• Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team to develop effective outreach campaigns and materials.
• Work with Alumni Engagement and other departments to build pipeline programs and initiatives and enhance the student experience.
   

External Engagement

• Represent HUC at recruitment events, academic conferences, and public forums.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including academic institutions, seminaries, alumni, and Jewish community organizations.
• Participate in speaking engagements and visibility opportunities to promote HUC's programs and build recruitment networks.
   

Travel Requirement

• Domestic travel up to 20%; occasional travel to Israel.

Education

• Required: Master’s degree from an accredited institution
• Preferred: Advanced degree in higher education or a field related to HUC's degree programs
   

Experience

• Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in higher education recruitment and admissions
• Demonstrated success in meeting enrollment goals or other relevant metrics
• Familiarity with Jewish institutional life, particularly in liberal or Reform communities
• Experience managing teams, supervising staff, and collaborating with senior leadership
   

Skills and Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to represent HUC positively to a range of audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience using data to inform strategy and decision-making
• Ability to exercise a high level of discretion with confidential information
• Ability to work flexible hours, travel, and adjust schedule based on admissions cycle
