GENERAL SUMMARY:

Collects required registration data, enters information into the computer database. Obtains required signatures and directs the patient to the appropriate department.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Collects and verifies required data for registration including name, address, phone number, attending physician, primary care physician, contact person, e-mail address and guarantor.
  • Collects insurance information and scans insurance cards into the account.
  • Verifies insurance via CPSI or the Medicaid web site and scans the verification into the account. Clarifies any insurance information discrepancies with the patient and corrects the account.
  • Obtains required signatures and obtains information for advance directives.
  • Completes the Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire for eligible patients.
  • Is aware of contracted and non-contracted insurance carriers and informs the patient if their insurance is out-of-network.
  • Places outpatients on the tracking board for the correct departments
  • Runs the ER log daily for the outpatient coder.
  • Runs reports for the ER director’s QA.
  • Scans outpatient surgery charts, ER charts, and drivers license into the account.
  • Prints admission paperwork and identification labels for all departments.
  • Check the surgery schedule daily and pull up patients by DOB to verify all information. Create a new visit verify insurance enter authorization number is appropriate. Enter diagnosis print labels, scan information, make surgery packet, fill outpatient surgery form attach to packet along with Covid questionnaire. Put all surgery packets in assigned area and take all labels to same day surgery. When surgery charts are returned put on ER cart to be scanned later by ER admissions.
  • Runs pre-census and checks for completion.
  • Prints the census daily for the business office.
  • Assists volunteers in directing patients and families, providing wheelchairs as needed.
  • Send outpatient charts as appropriate to the outpatient coder. Including re-occurring records
  • Assists with other projects as directed by the director.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Work requires the analytical skill to read and understand instructions. Typing and computer skills.
Work requires the communication skills necessary to explain policies or procedures, relay patients’ needs to appropriate personnel or otherwise communicate with others in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures.
Work requires excellent customer service skills.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Work requires a high school level of communication. Medical terminology and computer experience is required. Previous experience is preferred.

MACHINES AND TOOLS:
Ability to operate personal computer, typewriter, telephone, calculator, fax, copier, and scanner.
