Middle School Flag Football Sports Official

The Middle School Flag Football Sports Official must have an enthusiastic personality with an ability to develop relationships with participants, coaches, athletic directos, parents and other staff. They must have extensive knowledge flag football and a desire to use that knowledge to grow professionally with the YMCA. The Middle School Flag Football Sports Official will be officiating middle school flag football games for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. They should present themselves in a professional, caring manner and have excellent communication skills. They should also learn and understand the YMCAs mission and best practices in order to help foster and ensure all sports practices, games and events have a mission driven atmosphere. Games will be played at the Fulton Family YMCA, Jerry Long Family YMCA and Kernersville Family YMCA. You will be able to select a home branch where you may officiate the majority of games but preference will be given to officials who are willing to travel to other branches as needed.

Schedule: Seasonal. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45pm-5:00pm in October and November. You will have the opporunty to stay on past the season and work evenings and Saturdays as a sports official for our recreational leagues.

Responsibilities include:
Officiate middle school flag football games with enthusiastic passion and sound judgment
Engage and build relationships with coaches, athletic directors, participants and parents
Assist with projects as needed
Monitor all activities in the gym or field  including proper use of equipment
Assure a fun, safe and quality experience that is in accordance with Association policies/guidelines. This includes monitoring language and behavior of Y participants. 
Clean the gym or field as needed
Ensure safety for all participants with a knowledge of rules and precautions
Understand and enforce all rules for game play set by the Association
Assist with sports department marketing

Ability to provide a high level of customer service
Possess strong sense of responsibility
Energetic, devoted, mission driven, confident, respectful, adaptable, team oriented individual
Punctual
Working knowledge of rules for flag football required
Ability to work with teenagers required
Ability to accept supervision, critique and guidance required
Good communication skills with children, coaches and parents required
Good conflict resolution skills with children, coaches and parents required
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control required
Willing to officiate at other YMCA of NWNC branches if needed
Current certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen administration or obtain certification within 30 days of hire
