School Bus Driver - $22 per hour - Full Time - Immediate Hiring for Garden City Schools

Drivergent Transportation is a Metro Detroit school transportation company looking for motivated, customer-focused individuals who want to join our team transporting students.

As a School Bus Driver for Drivergent Transportation, you will be on the educational front lines and it will be your job to safely transport students, exceed customer expectations, and ensure routes are operated on time. Successful drivers put safety first, are reliable, can succeed in a changing environment, and are ready to work!

These full-time, contracted School Bus Driver positions are employed by Drivergent, but are scheduled on permanent assignment with our partner school district.

This position is available to School Bus Drivers with active fully endorsed CDL (A or B with P & S endorsements).

Paid CDL training is also available for inexperienced candidates who are interested in applying.

Available Positions:

• Approximately 4 to 5-hour daily split shifts (2-2.5 hours AM and 2-2.5 hours PM)
• Full-Time schedules - based on school transportation calendar
• MUST be reliable and capable of working a partially flexible schedule

General Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students including all duties connected to operating a school bus per all applicable client district policies & state/federal laws
• Adhere to all school district rules, regulations, and policies
• Follow all directives from school district staff while on-duty
• Ability to manage and maintain all students on the bus in a calm and safe manner
• Conduct all pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
• Reports any maintenance problems to the Maintenance Department in accordance with district procedure and does not operate an unsafe vehicle.
• Reports to duty on time and maintains route on time but in a safe manner
• Physically assists passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency
• Immediately reports any accident or incident per Company/District policy
• Exercises student and/or passenger management per Company/District policy
• Informs all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures
• Keeps the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable
• Always present a neat and professional personal appearance
• Ensures vehicle is properly fueled according to facility procedures
• Completes all required paperwork (including route change sheets, timecards, vehicle repair requests) and submits to the appropriate authority in a timely manner
• Maintains a cooperative attitude with parents, students, other staff members, fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers while always promoting company goodwill
• Safely and efficiently utilizes vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios and emergency equipment
• Always drive and operate delivery vehicle safely
• Actively limit distracted driving habits
• May assist in training other team members
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

• Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing per DOT regulations
• Have and maintain eligible driving record per all applicable client district policies and state/federal laws
• Must pass State and FBI Criminal Background Check per MDE regulations and Client District policies
• Ability to pass DOT physical requirements and obtain valid DOT medical card
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License with valid P and S endorsements
• Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class (Advanced School Bus Driver Training) every 2 years
• Ability to tolerate stressful situations
• Able to understand and have empathy for children and persons with disability
• Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to operate and navigate a full-size or special-need school bus
• Ability to effectively operate a GPS
• Basic knowledge of Metro Detroit area
• Ability to work outside in various climates and weather conditions
• Must always practice defensive driving and avoid vehicular and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits.
• Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract specific Driver requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

• Eligible to work in the U.S
• Minimum 21 years of age
• Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with active P & S endorsements
• Ability to complete CDL training and obtain a license
• Consent to a drug test, motor vehicles and background check
• Demonstrate strong communication skills
• Proficient in English to read road signs and communicate with personnel

• Prior professional driving experience 
• Excellent attention to detail with skill set to problem solve independently
• Self-motivated and able to work in a self-directed environment with an upbeat attitude
• Ability to work with a team in a fast paced, ever-changing environment
