Library Technician I (30 hours week, 12 months)

                  SUPERVISOR:     Library Director

SALARY:      $18.28-$18.56

 

The salary placement upon hire will be based on the selected candidate’s education and relevant work experience as outlined in the job announcement and the established salary schedule for the classification of the positon to be filled.

SCOPE OF WORK

This position is responsible for assisting patrons in use of library services. Reports to library director.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Adhere to college and library policies and practices, especially with respect to patron confidentiality and intellectual freedom.
  2. Assist patrons in finding and using library information, services and equipment.
  3. Inform patrons of library rules and policies.
  4. Register new patrons and check materials in and out using library software system.
  5. Shelve materials and shelf-read using Library of Congress and Dewey Classification systems.
 

 

  1. Assist with library programming and events.
  2. Assist with compilation of patron statistics as needed.
  3. May open and/or close library depending on shift.
  4. May be asked to cover other shifts when short staffed.
  5. Maintain the computer lab’s cleanliness and safety.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the break room.
  7. Place work orders for facility maintenance.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

   QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    • At least one year of continuous work experience demonstrating an ability to satisfactorily perform the essential job duties.
    • Attention to detail and ability to perform work accurately and completely.
    • Ability to learn and follow instructions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to operate office and library equipment and software.
    • Ability to work well independently as well as a member of a team.
    • Ability to talk with difficult patrons in a respectful and calm manner.
    • Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 15 pounds and push a book truck the length of the building.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous work experience in library setting.
    • Previous work experience in a tribal college.
    • Previous work experience in customer service.
    • Previous training or experience in first aid or as a first responder.
    • Knowledge of or interest in Native American peoples, especially of the Pacific Northwest Coast.
