Job Description:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, and supporting the company’s financial reporting and compliance requirements. This role prepares and reviews journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements, while monitoring adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. The Accounting Manager will report and collaborate with the leadership teams, auditors, and external partners to support month-end and year-end close processes, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and provide financial analysis to aid in business decision-making. This position requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely completion of all accounting functions, including monthly closings, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). Ensure proper treatment of contract costs, billing procedures, and revenue recognition in line with government contract requirements.
- Prepare and review internal and external financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and contract cost reports. Provide detailed analysis of financial performance.
- Collaborate with PM’s and senior leadership to develop budgets and financial forecasts. Assist in cost management and variance analysis for government contracts.
- Oversee cost allocation, direct and indirect cost tracking, and cost reimbursement procedures. Monitor and ensure adherence to allowable cost principles.
- Support internal and external audits, including audits of government contracts. Ensure that all necessary documentation and reconciliations are provided for audit purposes.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate government contract invoices, ensuring compliance with contract terms and applicable government regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and laws.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accountants. Provide training on government accounting regulations and industry best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within the accounting function, with the goal of enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. MBA, CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
- Unanet software experience highly desired
- Billing in automated accounting system environment experience necessary
- Government contracting experience required
