Job Description
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Supervisor: Finance Manager
Job Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the Center for Child Protection. This role supports the finance department in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies. The Staff Accountant performs general ledger accounting, prepares journal entries, assists with month-end and year-end closings, reconciles accounts, and assists with financial reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- 1-2 years’ experience in accounting
- GL, PR, AR, AP, reconciliation preparation
- Knowledge of GAAP and IRS codes as they relate to 501(c)3 corporations required
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel preferred
- Ability to complete projects timely and accurately
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Job Tasks:
- Performs a variety of accounting functions, including data entry of bank and credit card accounts, AP, AR, FF&E and general ledger
- Coordinates payment of all outstanding payables
- Enters payroll into QuickBooks, ensuring proper calculation of payroll tax liabilities, and submits liability and associated reports to government agencies
- Assists with auditing health insurance invoices
- Assists with auditing payroll
- Assists with auditing 401(k) files
- Works with Chief Strategy Officer to ensure grant activity in QuickBooks is current and accurate
- Assists with preparing monthly financial statements for Board meetings
- Works with Events Managers and Finance Manager to account for, secure and transport donations received at events; manage receipts of all incoming donations, ensures donation activity in QuickBooks is current and accurate
- Attends monthly staff meetings
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements
- Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the mission, core values and vision of the organization and the children’s advocacy model
- Provides program coverage for forensic, therapy and medical cases as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
