Job Summary:

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating transportation services between the distribution center and customer locations. This role manages Route Service Representatives, ensuring strong customer relationships, timely issue resolution, and high service standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assigning daily work, evaluating performance, and administering corrective actions when necessary. The Transportation Supervisor also ensures fleet readiness and safety to support consistent, reliable deliveries and exceptional customer service.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effective at managing subordinate employees and evaluating their performance.
  • Capable of communication with employees on performance and direction of tasks to meet Company goals.
  • Effective at training and leading teams of employees to achieve Company goals.
  • Maintain constant contact with Route Service Representatives (RSRs), scale operators (clean & soil), service center and office management staff, external service providers and customers.
  • Manage, train and coordinate Route Service Representatives to meet and exceed operating and customer satisfaction objectives, often including daily meetings and monthly route observations.
  • Monitor Route Service Representative performance by conducting daily one-on-one meetings.

  • Develop and optimize route structure to maximize customer service and control distribution, expense as a percentage of revenue, including daily review of DOT trip sheets, timecards, comparison to Saucon GPS report, and rearranging stops among RSRs as needed to meet budget expectations.
  • Analyze data to evaluate and coach team members towards performance improvement in areas, including, service commitments and productivity.
  • Structure documentation of, delivery of, and receipt of materials
  • Assist with measurement and documentation of customer satisfaction issues related to delivery off materials, including customer visitation.
  • Assist with compliance with company and insurance carrier policies and directives, including, assisting with monthly training and Safety In-Services
  • Assist with compliance to Federal and State DOT regulations, including monitoring and managing issues related to Drivers Licenses and medical cards and other tasks related to the position
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position oversees the daily activities of Route Service Representatives (RSRs) and plays a critical role in their hiring, training, scheduling, task assignments, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions up to and including termination, when necessary. The Transportation Supervisor is expected to effectively manage the full RSR team and may also be responsible for supervising additional personnel, such as scale operators and vehicle loaders, who report directly to them.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree preferred, with coursework in business, transportation, or distribution; equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • 2–5 years of experience in Health Care and customer service environment preferable. 

  • Strong knowledge of transportation and distribution operations, including regulatory requirements related to drivers and vehicles (e.g., DOT compliance).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with team members, management, sales personnel, and customers.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and training abilities.

  • Proven proficiency in performance measurement and goal achievement.

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and able to follow through on responsibilities with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

 

Travel Required:

The position works in an office environment within the service center, with some auto travel to customer locations. Travel is expected to take up 25% of work time, typically requiring riding with Route Service Representatives to evaluate work practices and vehicle performance.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position works predominantly within an office environment. The position requires considerable sitting, standing, and walking. Physical demands can involve lifting and handling linens (clean and soiled) and textile products of up to 50-70 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand regularly; walk; wear PIP equipment, hands to touch, manipulate, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The position required is occasionally to climb or balance, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and smell. Specific vision skills required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

The working environment is indoors and is seasonally heated and cooled with minimal noise levels.   

The position requires the ability to communicate in person, telephonically and via email. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate. Lifting to 30lbs. PPE is required in certain parts of the plant. Climbing stairs, using a keyboard, reaching above shoulder, and use of computer mouse are required. Main office is at the team member residency. Able to travel between locations and classes.
