Description

With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community. We actively promote policies that advance racial equity.

 

CHLDC has an opening for one (1) full-time Grant Writer in the Fund Development Department. This position is a non-exempt role. We seek a talented writer and detail-oriented project manager to prepare and submit compelling government Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and private foundation/corporation proposals for CHLDC’s impactful programs in college success, workforce development, community organizing, education and youth development, housing, and community development.

 

This is a growth position within our nonprofit organization that reports directly to the Director of Fund Development & Strategic Initiatives and works closely with the Deputy Director of Fund Development. CHLDC has an annual budget of $25 million and serves over 20,000 residents annually from multiple school-based sites, a community center, and storefront offices.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write and submit proposals to private and corporate foundations and grant applications/RFPs to government agencies.
  • Prepare timely and accurate progress and final reports to funders, coordinating with program and fiscal staff.
  • Lead collaborative proposal development processes with program, management, and fund development staff to ensure quality, timely submissions.
  • Support program staff in understanding funder requirements and developing strong narrative content.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative requirements for funded awards.
  • Maintain accurate and organized files of critical grants-related documents.
  • Conduct Government, foundation and corporate research to identify new prospects.
  • Maintain the Fund Development grants calendar and reporting tracker.
  • Collaborate with Fund Development team on special projects as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least two years of experience with grant writing and contracts in government, human services, or other nonprofit settings.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to tailor language for different audiences (government, corporate, foundation).
  • Familiarity with government grant systems (e.g., Grants.gov, NYC PASSPort, Grants Gateway, Statewide Financial Systems, SAM) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Foundation Directory Online and prospect research methods.
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, and Instrumentl.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, and able to work independently on multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Supervision

  • Reports directly to the Director of Fund Development & Strategic Initiatives and supports the Deputy Director of Fund Development.

 

Compensation Salary:

  • $60,000 – $65,000, depending on experience.
