Position Description
DEPARTMENT: Recreation
TITLE: Baseball/Softball Umpire
CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
SUMMERY OF POSITION: Officiates youth baseball, youth softball, and/or adult softball games. Must be available to work nights and/or weekends as the needs of the District require.
SUPERVISION RECIEVED: Reports and works under the Athletic Coordinator
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None

- Officiate baseball and softball games according to league rules and standards
- Arrive at assigned games early to inspect field conditions and equipment
- Maintain control of the game, ensuring fair play and enforcing rules appropriately
- Communicate clearly and professionally with players, coaches, and spectators
- Handle disputes calmly and respectfully, escalating to supervisors when necessary
- Maintain game records and report incidents to the Athletic Coordinator
- Promote sportsmanship and positive conduct on the field
- Assists with risk management activities associated with baseball and softball game operations
- Performs other duties as assigned by Recreation staff
- Participates in required district training programs
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of baseball and/or softball rules
- Ability to remain calm and composed in a past-pased environment
- Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
- Reliable transportation to and from game locations
- Willingness to working evenings and weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Extensive experience umpiring baseball and/or softball at all ages
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have or obtain CPR/AED certification within 6 months of employment.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties associated with this job the employee may work near people playing a variety of sports, instructors conducting youth/adult activities or specialized program classes, or near a fitness area, gymnasium or field house. The employee may be occasionally exposed to loud noises associated with athletic or special events with crowds. The position is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity.
