DEPARTMENT: Golf Course Operations
TITLE: Golf Course Maintenance
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal, Non-Exempt
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Works on the diverse range of activities involved in golf course maintenance and construction. Also does semi-skilled grounds construction maintenance work and performs related tasks as required.
 

PAY RATE: $15.00/hour - $18.00/hour

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Golf Maintenance Superintendent and the Golf Maintenance Assistant Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May at times direct the work of employees hired to perform duties within areas of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties and responsibilities listed below are illustrative only and not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all duties and responsibilities associated with this position.
1. Operates powered equipment in mowing the golf course; rakes sand traps with power rakes. Aerifies greens, tees, fairways and approaches. Operates sod cutters, spray rigs, fertilizer spreaders and other equipment as directed.
2. Maintains gasoline, oil and other equipment fluid levels daily. Reports equipment problems and failures immediately.
3. Performs basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed and returns equipment to designated location at the maintenance facility.
4. Grades and prepares a soil plant bed, lays sod, plants vegetative material, and seeds putting greens, tees, fairways and roughs.
5. Maintains ball washers, water coolers and trash receptacles.
6. Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in all aspects of this facility.
7. Plants and maintains flowerbeds, trees and shrubs.
8. Performs custodial work, snow & ice removal, painting, and equipment detailing as required or assigned.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
1. Assist with changing pins and tee markers.
2. Assists in outings and special events.
3. Assists in the general maintenance and repair of all the facilities associated with this department.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and Experience:
A. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
A. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
B. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
C. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
D. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Valid Illinois driver’s license
3. Requires evening, weekend and holiday hours.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods of time, climb up and down stairs, use a computer, and drive to other facilities and businesses as needed to perform this job. The employee is occasionally required to climb up and down various structures within this facility and be able to handle heights not to exceed 20 feet. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs by themselves or 75 lbs with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near people playing golf, high-pressure irrigation, pumps and motors, high voltage, mowing and construction equipment, motorized golf carts, hydraulics under pressure, fuel, oils, cleaning products, etc. The employee works in outside weather conditions, including wet and humid conditions, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and fertilizers and pesticides used in the operation of a golf course. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
