Position Overview:

St. Thomas University College of Nursing invites applications for an online full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing position in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Practitioner Program. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the various nursing programs through teaching, clinical supervision, research, and service. This faculty member will contribute to the development of nursing students at the graduate level, delivering a student-centered educational experience in line with the University’s mission of fostering ethical leadership, cultural diversity and academic excellence that reflect our Catholic identity. The position offers opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and making a significant impact in nursing education.

Although this is an online position, successful faculty are required to work two days per week on campus to provide academic advising to students and conduct test reviews, ensuring a seamless connection between virtual learning and in-person engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate nursing courses, including general and specialized ones in your area of expertise, such as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Develop and implement innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies for online learning environments.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, helping them set academic and professional goals.
  • Engage in curriculum development, program assessment and evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives for nursing programs.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and accreditation-related activities, including assisting the Dean of Nursing with the preparation of CCNE accreditation documents.
  • Maintain office hours as per St. Thomas University guidelines and support the program’s goals through direct involvement in faculty initiatives.
  • Actively participate in simulation-based learning activities as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to enhance student learning, clinical placements, and program development.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including faculty committees and community engagement.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success and addresses the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Conduct and publish research in areas related to nursing practice, education, or healthcare.
  • Stay current with advances in nursing practice and education to continuously improve teaching and clinical instruction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education Background: Ph.D. or DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) in Nursing from an accredited institution.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Certification:

National certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

Active, unencumbered RN and APRN licenses in the state of residence, with compact licensure preferred.

Licensure: Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.

Experience:

  • Demonstrates excellence in teaching at the university level with a minimum of three years of experience.
  • Experience in clinical instruction and/or mentoring students in practical settings with a minimum of three years of experience.
  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience as a PMHNP.
  • Demonstrated capability to teach online courses.
  • Experience with nursing curriculum development and program assessment.
  • Strong interest and experience in student advising and mentoring.
  • Active engagement in scholarly activity, with potential for continued research and publication.
