Description

The primary objectives of this position are to effectively manage, plan and organize the day-to day operations of the transportation division of the San Antonio Food bank. This will include, but not be limited to, managing the pick-up and delivery of product, collecting and documenting accurate information from donors, overseeing vehicle maintenance and supervising and evaluating drivers.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manages in a timely manner all product donor requests for pick-ups
  • Assists in the effective and efficient development and optimization of routes and schedules to support timely pick-ups and deliveries of donated product
  • Monitors system to maximize efficiencies in pickup and delivery
  • Manages all functions related to dispatching of drivers for pick-ups and deliveries
  • Conducts effective communication on scheduling requirements for staff, donors, and partner agencies
  • Prepares weekly and monthly reports, responds to requests for data and maintains required records
  • Creates and updates standard operating procedures (SOP) as needed
  • Consistently looks for improvements to streamline department procedures
  • Tracks and inputs all donations from retail pickups into CERES (inventory Software)
  • Provides training to drivers on DOT requirements to include pick-up, delivery and dispatch issues
  • Provides monthly driver safety training, new driver onboarding, and other trainings as needed
  • Documents all driver and vehicle information in accordance with State and Federal Laws outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Advocates for safety in the workplace and on the road always
  • Monitors overtime and vacation leave throughout the year to ensure all pick ups and deliveries are accounted for
  • Supervises, mentors, and writes performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues
  • Maintains a schedule of regular maintenance and repair of vehicles ensuring vehicles are in good working order and compliant with safety regulations
  • Maintains relationships with vendors that offer maintenance and repair for SAFB vehicles
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure seamless transportation operations
  • Provides data and information as needed for various requests
  • Always act as an ambassador of the San Antonio Food Bank when conducting business with donors, potential donors, partner agencies and donation recipients
  • Accepts additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • College degree in logistics, supply chain management or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Experience and understanding of general fleet management, logistics, DOT and FMCSA regulations, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of private fleet maintenance operations including preventive maintenance schedules and repairs
  • Experience with routing and monitoring software is recommended
  • Experience in managing transportation operations ideally in a route trucking environment
  • Ability to effectively lead teams, communicate with drivers and partners, and resolve conflicts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in computer applications i.e. word processing and database management
  • Good judgment and discretion
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to organize work, time, and self
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Food Bank staff, donors, volunteers and agencies.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor under a variety of conditions.
  • Ability to supervise large teams and delegate appropriate tasks.
  • Proven change management skills
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit, talk, hear, keyboard, and utilize fine manipulation and near visual acuity. The employee is occasionally required to walk, utilize gross manipulation, push, pull, reach, and stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

     

    Work Environment

    The work environment is primarily indoors, but may require attendance at events that are held outdoors.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
