Dominican University of California is seeking to hire part-time adjunct professor(s) with expertise in science. The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics invites applicants to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in both the biological and physical sciences. We are looking for outstanding lecturers who can teach small and large lecture courses, as well as seminars, discussions, and laboratory classes.

The number of positions varies from semester to semester depending on the needs of the department. Typically, positions start in August or January, with the possibility of renewal based on departmental needs, funding, and performance.

Potential teaching areas include anatomy, organismal biology, molecular biology, ecology, genetics, general chemistry, physiology, organic chemistry, public health, quantitative science, and some specialty areas of science. A PhD in biology, chemistry, kinesiology, public health, or a related scientific field is strongly recommended. However, an MS in one of these areas with relevant teaching experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lectures and/or laboratory courses, primarily at the undergraduate level, which may include both science majors and non-science majors; some graduate courses may also be available.
  • Prepare lectures  and/or laboratory exercises/materials in line with the course syllabus and learning objectives
  • Utilize Moodle, the campus learning management system, for courses.
  • Evaluate student performance through practical exams, lab reports, and/or other assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Provide support and guidance to students, including answering questions, clarifying concepts, and offering feedback on their performance.
  • Uphold academic performance standards and integrity.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Kinesiology, Physics, Public Health, Quantitative Science, or another science discipline
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Google Suite: Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, and Slides
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Zoom
