About Us

NewFed Mortgage is a well-established, family-owned mortgage lender with over 20 years of experience helping homebuyers secure financing across 20+ states. Our team is growing, and we are looking for an experienced and meticulous Senior Accountant to join our corporate finance department. This role is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career accounting professional eager to continue to develop their skillset in an exciting industry. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participation in Monthly & Annual Close Process
    • Complete daily accounting tasks, maintaining an understanding of accounting best practices
    • Review accounting systems to ensure accurate entries and reporting
    • Review and reconcile funded and purchased loans
    • Review and reconcile revenue for each Branch cost center
    • Prepare journal entries
    • Handle monthly accruals
  • Support General Ledger
    • Assist with Chart of Accounts maintenance
    • Conduct revenue and expense account analysis
  • Manage Check Request Inbox (for borrower payments)
    • Forward to investor
    • Provide support to the Servicing Team and Sales Team
    • Handle check runs
  • Financial Reporting
    • Review and reconcile Branch P&L’s to the supporting production database
    • Create monthly activity reporting per cost center
    • Create monthly Branch financials
    • Conduct month-over-month variance analysis; identify and evaluate large variances, bringing to management areas of concern affecting profitability
    • Complete the following regulatory filings: South Carolina, North Carolina, and MCR
    • Perform ad-hoc research and reporting, as needed
  • Support with payables, expense analysis, and accruals
  • Assist in audit schedules and requests for quarterly reviews/annual audits
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Qualifications

Minimum Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in accounting or financial analysis
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A proactive team player with the ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • Ability to travel to Boston, MA 1-2 times per year for team meetings/company events

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting
  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting or financial analysis
  • Prior demonstrated experience thriving in a remote, independent work environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to operate a computer and other office machinery

Compensation:

  • Annual salary of $75,000.00 - $80,000.00, commensurate with background/experience.
  • Opportunity for up to an additional 15% in discretionary quarterly bonuses, dependent upon both mutually agreed upon projects and company profitability.
