Reports To:        VP of Operations

 

Organizational Background:

Columbia Grain International, LLC. is a long time established full-service grain company in the grain and pulses business. We are headquartered in Portland, Oregon and own/operate over 60 elevators and offices throughout WA, ID, MT, NE and ND to support our domestic and export sales program.

Position Description:

The Regional Operations Manager will support the Location and Operations Managers with tasks related to grain qualities, project management, inventory controls, maintenance management, contractor management and anything related to day-to-day operations.  This role requires a highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic, professionalism, and a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will be dependable, adaptable, and committed to achieving results in high-pressure situations. Strong teamwork and clear communication skills are essential. The Regional Operations Manager will collaborate with team members to meet operational goals while ensuring quality and efficiency are maintained.

Qualifications

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Elevator or Operations Manager in overseeing all operations, including scheduling of service equipment.
  • Coordinates with preferred contractors to arrange major maintenance tasks that cannot be handled internally.
  • Collaborates with the Location or Operations Manager to plan and budget for capital projects and major maintenance.
  • Monitors capital expenditures using a project spend tracker.
  • Works alongside location management to ensure commodities are stored properly to maintain product quality.
  • Maintains an up-to-date list of qualified contractors for various operational needs.
  • Promotes and enforces Columbia Grain’s safety culture, ensuring both employees and contractors comply with safety policies.
  • Contributes to the development of short- and long-term operational strategies and priorities.
  • Provides training, coaching, and mentoring to staff to build a strong, professional team.
  • Schedules and carries out maintenance on assigned equipment, rolling stock, and facility infrastructure.
  • Leads by example in following and enforcing safe operating procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees inventory control and management processes.
  • Supports the creation and execution of business plans aimed at maximizing location profitability.
  • Ensures the facility is kept clean, organized, and professionally presented at all times.
  • Develops and implements standardized training materials and procedural manuals to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality operation of grain and organic facilities.
  • Enhances and optimizes inventory management systems.
  • Prepares and presents capital expenditure projects to the regional Investment Committee.
  • Requires up to 50% travel to various facilities within the western region.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous Supervisory experience.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, storage, interest, commissions, ratios and conversions quickly and accurately.
  • Good work ethic (team environment, both safe and quality), efficient and willingness to perform all required work with good attendance.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move freely throughout the operations plant to include walking on elevated platforms, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling
  • Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs.
  • Exposure to extreme climate temperatures, humidity and noise
  • Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces
  • Occasionally required to taste and smell
  • Required to wear protective equipment to include hard hat, safety glasses, protective footwear, gloves, coveralls, and other PPE as required.
