Description

Are you a passionate youth advocate with empathic listening skills? Do you like building relationships with youth? We may have the position for you. Shaker Heights Public Library is seeking an Afterschool Associate to help us meet our mission of strengthening our diverse community and transforming lives by engaging proactively with youth customers. This is a part-time position that works up to 12 hours a week during the school year and follows the Shaker Heights City School District calendar. 

Must have excellent skills in problem-solving, de-escalation, and communication, both oral and written. As a member of the Youth Services team, the Afterschool Associate will circulate throughout the building engaging youth and collaborating with library staff to maintain a welcoming environment for all customers. Must enjoy working with youth of all ages and backgrounds in a diverse community. 

 

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or current Ohio Teaching Certificate preferred (or combination of some college plus relevant experience) 

  • Experience in teaching, classroom management, school security, or working with youth in group settings  

  • Knowledge of child development and behavior 

  • Training and experience in de-escalation  

  • Familiarity with restorative practices preferred. 

  • Ability to work during afterschool hours on Shaker Heights City School District school days
