Position: Coding Specialist

Reports To: Revenue Cycle Manager

Schedule: Full Time, Monday – Friday 8am – 430 pm EST (Flexible)

Location:  Remote/Hybrid, Michigan residents only

Job Summary: Sheridan Community Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality healthcare to our close-knit rural community. Our team values personalized care, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. We are seeking a dependable, and hardworking coding specialist to join our team . The coding specialist will be applying CPT/ICD-10/HCPCS to services and rebilling rejected claims for services performed in a Rural Health Clinic Primary Care and Critical Access Hospital.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review documentation to code diagnosis and procedures (to include inpatient, outpatient surgery, observation, Emergency Department and outpatient diagnostics)
  • Communicate with physicians to obtain or clarify diagnosis and/or procedures via the query process
  • Assign accurate codes utilizing an electronic encoder application in accordance with practice policy and regulatory guidelines
  • Assures that accurate, complete client care documentation is completed timely, in preparation for billing
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize and complete work in timely manner
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office or similar applications
  • Ability to work independently, takes initiative, and work collaboratively with others
  • Maintenance of continuing education requirements
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Participate in quality improvement projects. Attend training and meetings as required
  • Maintains awareness of current quality and safety measures on the unit and follows guidelines or reporting measures to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Knowledge and skills in quality improvement and research methodologies.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in health information management, required.
  • Active coding credential RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS or CPCH, ICD 10 Certified
  • Prefer Minimum 3 years of ED/outpatient coding experience, experience in E/M leveling for Hospital and Professional
