Lift Operations Manager

Job Summary

The Lift Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of all chairlifts and other mountain activities at Nordic Valley Ski Resort. This position oversees the Lift Operations Department, including hiring, training, and managing staff, and ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory safety standards. The manager is a crucial part of the resort's leadership team, contributing to an exceptional guest experience and fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Lift Operations Supervisors and Lift Operators.

  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate department staff.

  • Conduct performance appraisals and handle disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.

  • Foster a culture of safety, excellent guest service, and teamwork.

• Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee the daily operation, opening, and closing procedures for all chairlifts and surface lifts.

  • Ensure all lifts are operated in a safe and efficient manner, in compliance with all state and federal regulations (e.g., Passenger Tramway Board standards).

  • Coordinate with the Lift Maintenance and Ski Patrol departments to ensure seamless mountain operations.

  • Monitor and manage lift mazes, signage, and loading/unloading zones to ensure a smooth flow of guests.

  • Participate in the daily operations of lifts as needed, especially during peak times or to cover staffing shortages.

• Safety and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety training programs for all lift operations staff.

  • Conduct and document regular safety inspections and drills.

  • Ensure all employees are knowledgeable and compliant with emergency procedures and protocols.

  • Maintain accurate daily lift logs and all required documentation.

  • Address and resolve guest and employee safety concerns promptly.

• Guest Service:

  • Champion a "guest-first" approach within the department.

  • Train staff on effective guest interaction, including greeting, assisting with loading and unloading, and answering questions.

  • Handle and resolve guest complaints or issues in a professional and constructive manner.

• Administrative and Financial:

  • Manage the department's budget, including labor and operational costs.

  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll for all employees.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Previous supervisory or management experience, preferably within a ski resort or a similar fast-paced recreational environment.

• Strong understanding of ski lift operations, safety protocols, and industry best practices.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

• Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

• Proficiency with computer software for scheduling, communication, and documentation.

• Intermediate to expert skiing or snowboarding ability is required to access lift stations in all weather conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and wind.

• Ability to stand, walk, ski, and/or snowboard on various types of terrain for the duration of a shift.

• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

• Must be able to perform physical tasks such as shoveling snow, de-icing towers, and setting up lift mazes.
