Description

Charlotte Latin School is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our Extended Day classroom beginning in August 2025. The Extended Day Assistant Teacher helps the Lead Teacher plan and implement interactive and engaging lesson plans for his/her classroom to provide a structured play based, high quality after-school program that is child-centered and developmentally appropriate. The Assistant Teacher helps manage the classroom effectively with compassion, careful supervision, active engagement, attention to detail, organization, problem-solving strategies and purposeful play.  This is a 10-month position, Monday-Friday. The Extended Day hours are from 12:30-6 pm. 

The main duties of the role will include:

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with the planning and implementation of a variety of age-appropriate and theme related activities (monthly lesson plans), and assist with weekly email communications to parents.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with setup of activities and materials before each days program as well as daily classroom cleanup, organization, and maintenance.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in leading small group activities that are age appropriate in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and play experiences enhancing the social, physical, and academic advancement of the children in his/her care.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher in leading, supervising, and providing structure and help with homework (1st-5th grades).
  • Provide indoor and outdoor campus supervision of play areas to ensure children's safety and learning.
  • Provide support, preparation and supervision of off campus excursions.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and fellow staff.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings during the academic year.
  • Work 12 teacher workdays throughout the academic year (hours 7:30-4:30). Days will be set and communicated at the start of the year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, preferred
  • Previous experience working with school-age children required.
  • Safety procedures, First Aid and CPR are essential.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.

  • Frequently talk and hear.
  • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
