Description

Charlotte Latin School is seeking a creative, flexible, and energetic chemistry teacher with college preparatory experience to join our full-time Upper School science faculty.  This position is well suited for motivated professionals who are looking for the freedom to teach unique, individualized science courses at the Advanced Placement, honors, standard, and elective levels as part of a team of enthusiastic educators. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching. 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Teach 4 sections of Chemistry (or other sciences) 
  • Partner with colleagues to create and update course curriculum 
  • Assess students’ academic performance including regular grading
  • Provide 1:1 support to students during office hours, before and after school 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current within field
  • Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching.

  • None

Qualifications

Education and Experience

 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; master’s or doctoral degree in chemistry or an associated area is highly preferred
  • Experience teaching chemistry is required
  • Experience teaching physics, biology or other science courses is preferred.
  • Experience teaching a wide variety of course levels is preferred
  • Experience teaching in an independent school is preferred

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
  • Frequently talk and hear.
  • Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold.
  • Long or odd hours, as needed.
