Job Description:

The Facility Maintenance Technician is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of the district’s buildings and facilities. This role requires an individual with a diverse skill set in electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, carpentry, appliance repair, and facility management. The technician will work with outside contractors, manage their inventory, ensure safety standards, and provide exceptional service to support the district's daily operations. This role requires dedication, flexibility, and a commitment to excellence in maintaining the district's facilities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • General Duties:
    • Devote a minimum of forty (40) hours per week to performing district duties.
    • Devote full attention and energy when conducting business for the district.
    • Actively promote the interests and goodwill of the district in all aspects of the job.
  • Inventory Management & Procurement:
    • Report inventory levels related to Facilities Lead Technician to ensure that tools, equipment, and materials are readily available.
    • Follow department protocols for procurement, issue purchase orders, and maintain up-to-date inventory records.
    • Maintain tools and equipment on the mobile service vehicle for efficient operations.
  • On-Call & After-Hours Support:
    • Provide support for necessary repairs outside of normal business hours to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Contractor Management & External Relations:
    • Work with outside contractors for regular maintenance, testing, and repair of facility systems.
  • Building & System Inspections:
    • Inspect buildings and other structures to determine the functionality of systems and identify malfunctions or needed repairs.
    • Perform maintenance and repair of reverse osmosis systems, water softeners, and water treatment systems.
  • HVAC Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Maintain HVAC system performance by observing and testing systems as required. Includes:
      • Split systems, mini split systems, multi-zone, VRV heat pump/recovery, RTUs, WSHP, self-contained systems, CRAC units, air/water cooled chillers, AHUs, airside, and EF systems.
      • Pumps and piping systems.
  • Electrical & Plumbing Maintenance:
    • Perform basic electrical maintenance, including repairing ballast, light fixtures, and sockets.
    • Perform basic plumbing repairs to fixtures and related systems.
  • Carpentry, Painting, & Masonry Work:
    • Perform basic carpentry, painting, and masonry tasks.
  • Tools & Equipment Maintenance:
    • Maintain equipment, tools, and inventory stock on mobile service vehicles.
  • Appliance & Irrigation Maintenance:
    • Perform appliance repair and basic landscaping and irrigation system repairs.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
    • Maintain cleanliness in all utility, service, and IT rooms.
  • Vehicle & Safety Operations:
    • Safely operate a motor vehicle and trailer, adhering to the department’s vehicle driving policy.
    • Follow all safety protocols and departmental safety requirements while performing duties.
    • Follow safety guidelines for working from elevated platforms, lifts, roofs, and ladders.
    • Ensure all maintenance tasks are conducted with safety in mind, using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Preventive Maintenance Programs:
    • Follow preventative maintenance programs for facilities and district equipment.

Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience & Education:
    • 1-2 years performing facility maintenance, with hands-on experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other facility management tasks.
    • High School Diploma or GED required; additional technical certifications or training in facilities maintenance preferred.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Ability to interpret and work from sketches, drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
    • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical and equipment issues.
    • Basic understanding of electrical systems, plumbing, and carpentry.
    • Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, water treatment systems, and building control systems, preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • HVAC Certifications preferred.
    • EPA Certification for handling refrigerants and other environmental safety measures preferred.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and for extended periods.
    • Ability to work from elevated platforms, lifts, roofs, and ladders.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal teams, contractors, and district staff.
    • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
    • Ability to use specialized tools and equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, and testing equipment.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision or as part of a team.
  • Customer Service:
    • Must be customer service-oriented and capable of interacting with clients and contractors in a professional manner.
