Description

The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department (CMHAPD) is accepting applications from experienced candidates for lateral transfer as a full-time police officer. Eligible candidates will have successfully completed at least two years of continuous service as a full-time police officer, currently employed as a sworn police officer and be certified through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC). Starting salary will depend on the candidate's years of continuous, full-time service.

A Police Officer performs a variety of general and specific police functions in assigned area in order to preserve and protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and prevent and detect crime on CMHA premises. These tasks require an understanding of department operations, and state, local and federal statues, and involve an element of personal risk. The Police Officer must be dedicated to the Authority’s mission and vision and will uphold the shared values of commitment, respect, accountability, excellence and safety to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Police Officers’ Training Certification by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council.

SKILLS:

  • Physical agility requirements are waived
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age 21 at time of appointment
  • United States citizenship
  • Possess an OPOTC certificate and a minimum of two consecutive years of full-time experience as a Peace Officer as defined in the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with the public
  • Successfully complete a voice-stress analysis, psychological screening, and medical exam
  • Valid Ohio driver's license
  • Ability to work a 12-hour shift and emergency shifts as needed
  • Ability to rapidly and objectively analyze situations and determine the proper course of action
  • Experience in handling vehicles in routine and emergency conditions.
