Job Scope 

The Maintenance Technician is primarily responsible for performing housekeeping tasks, minor repairs, preventative maintenance, event set-ups, furniture moving and exterior grounds maintenance, including snow removal, so that the facilities can be used at all times for optimal educational functions in an environment that is clean, comfortable, safe, and attractive for all students, staff, and public. As an essential employee, the Maintenance Technician may be required to report to work when the College is closed or delayed in opening and will work a schedule as assigned by the Director of Facilities Operations, Regional Center Director, or Executive Director of Recruiting & Admissions, depending on the assigned location.


Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintain an attractive facility through daily routine cleaning of classrooms, offices, and common areas as assigned.  Duties include dusting, wet and dry mopping, vacuuming, cleaning chalk and marker boards, emptying trash receptacles, disposing trash into dumpsters, cleaning accessible glass surfaces, disinfecting tabletops and desk surfaces, laundering of rags, replacing ceiling tiles, and other related items.
  2. Clean and sanitize restrooms and kitchens. Restock dispensers as required.
  3. Periodic cleaning includes stripping, waxing and buffing floors, carpet extraction, cleaning light lenses and fixtures, high dusting and diffuser area maintenance, wall washing, and furniture cleaning.
  4. When assigned to the Richland Campus, must operate hand and power equipment and motorized vehicles to conduct snow removal and grounds maintenance. Duties include the application of ice melting chemicals, weed control chemicals, insecticides, as well as weeding and trimming.
  5. Move furniture, set up and tear down for special events.
  6. Occasionally assist with inter-campus moves, pick up or delivery of materials or parts, painting, hanging items like shelves, cabinets, personal items, marker boards, SmartBoards, etc.
  7. May lock or unlock building and/or rooms as required.
  8. Perform minor HVAC maintenance such as filter changes, lubrication, changing of belts and the ability to operate a DDC building control system.  Report major maintenance issues to the Director of Facilities Operations in a timely manner. 
  9. Performs minor electrical repairs including replacing switches, receptacles, fuses, and breakers, changing lamps and ballasts, troubleshoot and repair minor equipment. 
  10. Performs minor plumbing repairs such as soldering, opening clogged drains, perform repair or replacement of plumbing components such as diaphragms, flush-valves, faucets, and valves.
  11. Must have reliable transportation, as travel between work locations may be required when assigned to multiple centers.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
  • Formal education in HVAC, plumbing and/or electromechanical trades preferred. 


Experience & Knowledge: 

  • Prior housekeeping experience and the use of various housekeeping and grounds-keeping equipment is a plus.
  • A minimum of two years of related work experience is required along with an ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings, cut sheets, product guides and instruction sheets. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and successfully with maintenance tasks is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to stand on feet or walk for long periods of time, use hands and arms, climb ladders to 10 feet, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
