Join our Horizon Education Centers Food Service department, and you will help ensure our children are always getting the nutritious meals they deserve! Work at the Lakewood location and make a difference! This center has Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and School Age classrooms that you will prep and serve meals daily. Food Service Specialist- Experience with food service preferred, high school diploma or equivalent required. You will receive meals from the caterer and be responsible for prep, documentation, cleanliness and food safety for breakfast, lunch and snack meal service. Pay Rate Range: $13.25 to $14.25/hr dependent on food handler training level.

General Hours will be approximately 7am- 4pm - may vary slightly by center

Responsibilities Include:

  • Must attain Level 3 food handlers training and certification (safe serve online webinar and test)
  • Horizon will pay for certification requirements
  • Maintain compliance with the Ohio Health Department, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services
  • Prepare, operate, and close meal service (breakfast, lunch, and snack) including the collection of meal items from classrooms after service
  • Communicate nutrition-based resources to teachers and families
  • Check meal count sheets for accuracy after each service
  • Complete weekly lunch orders and milk inventories
  • Check food deliveries for accuracy of count and temperature for hot foods
  • Communicate with CACFP Coordinator regarding problems
  • Order supplies for meal service: condiments, plates, cups, etc.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness a MUST!
  • Between Meal service assist the office with duties that may include classroom supervision, data entry, cleaning, or answering phones. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalent 

  • Some training, experience, and/or interest in child development and food service prep preferred 

  • Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, DCY licensing rules and SUTQ professional development opportunities, and industry trends

  • We seek someone who is prompt and reliable and who possesses a genuine love of children 

  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. as required 

  • Must be able to pass background checks and physical/ medical screening as required
